Digitalisation and decarbonisation are the megatrends that Liebherr Group is focusing on

To find out how the two are being tackled together and what they mean for the development of future products and services, Peter Haddock met up with Stephen Albrecht, MD of Liebherr International at its recent press conference.

They discussed everything from alternative fuels, specialist software, real-time job site insights and even remanufactured engines.

Stephen also highlighted how the business is harnessing the power of 'MyLiebherr' as a single portal into an ever expanding range of digital products and services.

All of these are being developed by a team of over 100 experts at the Liebherr Digital Development Centre in Ulm, Germany, where this video was shot.

Stephen: "As a business, we manufacture a very diverse range of products used by an equally diverse range of customers, all of which are on their own decarbonisation journey.

“To support them and create the products they need to reduce carbon now and into the future, we recognise how important it is to embrace digitalisation across the whole business.

"Equally, we continue to see how data driven insights can help us develop new products and help our teams collaborate.

"And there is no doubt that this approach will help us on our electrification journey and support the future introduction of alternative fuels like Hydrogen and other drop-in replacement E-Fuels.

Peter added: "With more and more clients, contractors and plant hire companies focused on reducing the carbon impact of equipment, it is important to recognise the role digital solutions can play.

"Not only can we use them to identify how to reduce fuel burn, but we can also increase uptime and even rehearse complex lifts in 3D with the newly launched Liebherr Crane Planner.

"For me, it has been really exciting to witness how the Liebherr team is working on many different aspects of digital development and how this is marrying and supporting global decarbonisation efforts."
