Imagine your bucket being able to tell you where the utilities are before you start and whilst you are digging. Well, that is exactly what can now happen with any bucket being able to be retrofitted with 'Live Dig Radar' technology developed by Rodradar.
Peter Haddock discovered how the solution works when he met Yuval Barnea at Conexpo 2023, having previously tried to see the technology in action at Bauma 2022. The basics involve fitting the technology into a bucket and adding a control screen into the cab of the machine.
The operator can then scan the ground before and during digging, with the screen telling them exactly where any utilities are in real-time.
The system can also be set up to deliver automatic on-site alerts to prevent damage to underground utility infrastructure during the excavation process, and it can be fitted to any bucket. It takes seconds for the radar to scan the ground, as Peter discovered when he used the test rig in this video.
