Contractor Grafa transforms its fleet management with MachineMax

A connected mixed fleet changes everything for Iceland contractor Grafa og Grjót (Grafa) as it rolls out its MachineMax data-driven solution.

For Grafa Site Manager Johan Henrik, no matter whether he is onsite or in his head office with a 'live' touchscreen, he now knows exactly where each machine and the company's expensive attachments are. And not only that, but how many hours they work, idle times, and overall fuel burn. 

Johan spoke to Peter Haddock onsite: "As a team, we now have full visibility and control of our fleet, so we know which machines are needed where and when we can move underutilised assets from site to site. 

"And we can even plan our refuelling schedule every morning around fuel burn and location, ensuring each machine has enough fuel, and we can find it easily on the job site.

Showing how he uses the MachineMax dashboard on his mobile phone (in the second half of this video), Johan explained how the business works with the MachineMax team to create reports for its site managers, customers, and maintenance teams. 

Johan: "Uptime is very important to us, and we need to ensure we can service our machines and attachments when they reach key running hours. So now we can manage this process more effectively so it doesn't impact productivity. 

"This is great for our attachments in particular, as previously, we would not have remote access to hours worked, but this is now possible by adding a MachineMax sensor to each asset. 

"And getting the right information to our individual team members and customers is great as we can show progress on site and how we are reducing our environmental impact, which is important to all of us. 

Peter added: “Having spent some time with Johan, I was really impressed with how he has systematically looked at every part of the business operations and changed processes based on the information now at his fingertips. 

“And you can see just how this works in this video, especially as I drill down into the exact location we filmed onsite on its touch screen.”
