Flannery Plant Hire and Morgan Sindall talk collaboration social value and carbon reduction

At the Highways UK event in 2021, Peter Haddock talked to supply chain manager Faye Hodgkinson of Tier 1 contractor Morgan Sindall and strategic manager Chris Matthew of Flannery Plant Hire about social value and carbon reduction.

Faye: "Flannery is a very enthusiastic and active part of our supplier family. Their team brings solutions and ideas that can help us to deliver projects and give back to the local communities in which we work." At the event, Chris and Faye talked about how both businesses were reducing the carbon impact of equipment whilst supporting the advanced training of operators on the latest equipment and solutions.

Chris Matthew: "Morgan Sindall has comprehensive plans around the earthworks on all its major projects. These include key areas like providing local jobs and decarbonising plant and equipment.

"We work with the team to bring together many different ideas and solutions that combine to support these goals. Crucial to this is investing in technologies like 3D machine control and real-time data capture, purchasing the best machines for the tasks at hand, and delivering high training and support levels.

"It's why we have invested in the Operator Skills Hub and reached out to local communities to employ, support and train the operators we need to deliver for Morgan Sindall and our other customers.

"Ultimately, it's about making that journey to a zero-carbon future by putting the right operators in the right plant with the right technology and support." Listening to Chris and Faye, there is certainly a lot the industry needs to do to move forward, but we believe it can be achieved if all players in the earthworks sector work ever closer together."
