At Geo Business, Peter Haddock caught up with Helen Wattie of mobile and aerial mapping specialist Getmapping to talk about digitising the built environment. Helen also explained how it has recently completed mapping the whole of the road infrastructure in Denmark from the air and the ground. The business has already mapped UK road infrastructure and regularly updates the real-world digital twins it produces. By combining aerial and Mobile mapping, Getmapping can provide high levels of accuracy and create a huge database that companies can access to better plan projects. This approach saves time and carbon whilst improving safety, as surveyors don't need to close roads and put themselves at risk. The data is so accurate that 3D mesh models can be created, like this video's City of London model clip. To create its models, the business has been using the Pegasus vehicle-mounted mapping solution from Leica Geosystems. And Helen was at the show to witness the UK launch of the new Pegasus TRK solution. The new Pegasus TRK weighs just 18 Kgs compared to the predecessor it replaced, which was 49 Kgs. It is also 40% of the size of the previous model, and it could go underwater as it has an IP67 rating.
