Behind the scenes at the Leica Geosystems facility in Lyon, where accuracy depends on service done right. 

During a recent visit, Peter Haddock had the chance to meet Thomas Bonvalot to find out how the team supports local businesses with spare parts and servicing.

Thomas: “What I like here is that you can see the people taking care of the technology, making sure that all is well maintained, and repaired.”

That ethos runs through everything the team does, from stocking key components and refurbished parts to minimising downtime, with its specialist repair and maintenance lab.

Here, experts can spend up to seven hours or more on detailed maintenance for equipment like total stations.

Thomas added: “It may just be a few euros for a cable, but if it’s missing or broken, it can cost thousands in delays. That’s why being close to customers, with the right support and spares, makes all the difference.”

Peter added: “It’s not often you get to see behind the scenes like this, and it's a great reminder that innovation in our industry isn’t just about new technology.

“It’s about ensuring accuracy, reliability, and continuity on the job site, backed by teams who care about getting it right.”
