Komatsu PC400E11 electric mining shovel at Bauma 2022

Komatsu Europe gave Peter the key to the huge PC4000E-11 electric mining shovel at bauma 2022! But he couldn't find where to put it, so took a tour with our friend Nick Drew, the Digger Man Blogger.

The scale of this machine is off the charts. It has a high-voltage cable that delivers the power needed for the 1350 kW engine, and the engine itself can consume up to 7,200 volts and 145A. At the business end, there is a 22 cubic metre bucket, and the machine has an operating weight of over 400 tonnes.

It's fitted with loads of technology, including a birdseye view camera solution and has to be seen to be believed. It's great to see such a huge machine also being transformed to work on electricity, so zero emissions as the point of use. And if future owners and operators can match this with renewable electricity sources, then it will be an even bigger win for the environment.
