Lynch works with Buckingham Group to deliver 3D Machine Control solution for East West Rail project

Peter Haddock goes onsite to talk to L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage Head of Machine Control, Paul Keenan about how it's collaborating with clients like Buckingham Group to deliver connected sites with 3D machine control. Talking about the important role of the Lynch Machine Control division, Paul said: "There is no guesswork involved when you use 3D machine control, you have 'one version of the truth' with the machines able to collect 'as built' data. Having our own division also allows us to deliver bespoke solutions to our clients that offer greater efficiency, safety and visibility against the programme." With rail projects often in remote locations with poor GPS coverage, in this interview, Paul also explains the importance of achieving high levels of accuracy using in this case the Leica Geosystems total station. By designing for machines like dozers and excavators, Lynch is able to reduce the people plant interface and the team can even dial in remotely to support operators. On this site, Lynch is also using an excavator with an engcon tiltrotator, controlled by the Leica 3D machine control, through its CoPilot system. Peter adds: “For me, it all adds up to less fuel burnt and a more productive, sustainable and safer industry.”
