Moog Construction launch Autonomous Robotic Solutions at Conexpo 2023

Peter Haddock went to see the team on stand D2739 to find out how the solutions work and was surprised to see an older diesel skid steer transformed into a fully autonomous vehicle. The solution it was using was like a ‘technology hat’ placed on the top of the vehicle. It has camera systems, a Lidar and some very clever software controlling it. The Robotic element of the autonomous solution was all about designing models for the machine to follow, and there was even a base station to support high levels of accuracy. The machine on the stand can also be used with a remote control, and Peter got to stop the machine in mid-autonomous flow with the added safety function. It’s a very scalable and modular solution, so you can transform a whole range of existing equipment into autonomous equipment. This is great for monotonous applications. It's been trialled in solar farms to deliver panels, dramatically reducing breakages. And also putting older machines, in this case, into dangerous applications. It’s a fascinating way of taking an existing asset and making it autonomous whilst also paving the way for OEMs to adopt the technology in future equipment designs, as Stephen and Thomas Greier explain in this video. We can see this technology in the future helping to support a wide range of construction applications whilst tackling the shortage of operators and, of course, reducing idle time. And when you can use technology like this in dangerous applications, it is a huge safety benefit. You can find out more at https://www.moogconstruction.com/
