Operator Harry Says Go for Gold with technology

"Go for it - Go for Gold" Earlcoate Construction Operator Harry, with 22 years in the seat, talks about using 3D Machine Control One of the best parts of visiting construction sites is meeting people like Harry who just give you an honest opinion about machines and technology. 

Peter Haddock caught up with him onsite at a big project in Southampton Docks where he was operating a Caterpillar Dozer fitted with Leica Geosystems 3D machine control by dealer One Point Survey. He talked to me about using the system on the dozer.

Harry: “It took a bit of getting used to at first as I was used to the old ways with laser levels, but it's been a good transition. "Once the team from One Point explained how to use the system and how to adjust the levels myself, I found it quite easy.

“It's quicker too and makes the final trims much simpler to achieve. Asking Harry about his advice to others not sure about using the technology, he added: “After that, it just gets in your head and off you go."

On a major earthworks project where productivity matters, he says the benefits are clear. "It's easier to get to your levels and your marks straight away. It's quicker too. It makes the final trims much easier."

For operators still unsure about making the move to 3D machine control, Harry had a simple message. "It took me a little while to get used to it, but after that, it just gets in your head and off you go. “I would just say go for it. Go for gold. It makes a lot of difference."
