Fusing the transition from diesel to electric, Perkins Engines Company Limited showcases its battery power solution at bauma, changing a diesel pipe fuser from McElroy Manufacturing, Inc. into a fully electric machine.
Peter Haddock spoke to expert Alan Davies to understand how it has worked with the team at McElroy to create an electric version of its machine in the same space as the diesel engine. It even uses the old diesel fuel filler inlet to house the electric charging connector.
Alan: “What we’ve developed is a complete package solution which includes a battery, motor, power electronics, all built to deliver the same output our customers expect. “In addition, we have created a simple interface that ensures the end user can just turn the key, and it powers up like the diesel version.
“It’s also why we placed the electric charging port in exactly the same location as the fuel filler. “It’s about making the transition intuitive and letting our customers focus on what they do best, knowing we’ll handle the power.”
