Talking carbon reduction and sustainability with Julia Barrett of Tier 1 Contractor Willmott Dixon

"Our supply chain is responsible for 99% of our emissions, so we are working together to help businesses develop their own carbon plans..."

That is the key takeaway from this interview with Peter Haddock and Julia Barrett, Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer at Tier 1 contractor Willmott Dixon.

We caught up at the Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK) conference recently where she shared insights with attendees.

Julia: "We have been part of the School for the last 12 years, and in this time, we have made some big steps forward, reducing not just emissions with our supply chain but costs as well."

"For example, in the early days, we worked on a project with one of our groundworks contractors McDermott Building and Civil Engineering Ltd and realised some really big savings of up to 20%."

"And this was just about doing things differently. As we move forward, having realised the easy wins, it will now be more about how we take the whole industry along the journey."

"This is why I am a big supporter of the carbon portal on the Supply Chain School's website, which will make it easier to report on emissions and spot where reductions can be achieved."
