Thomas Plant Hire and Ongrade support BAM Construction in creating a Leica Geosystems 3D connected site

Thomas Plant Hire and Ongrade support BAM Nuttal in creating a Leica Geosystems 3D connected site, including excavators, dozers and ADTs, for a major regeneration project in the centre of Manchester.

Peter Haddock visited the site to find out more from the passenger seat of a connected 4x4, thanks to the installation of a Leica Geosystems foreman kit for earthworks foreman Paul Edwards.

Paul: "We are in the remediation phase of the project right now, and this requires careful management of the earthworks to separate and treat contaminated material.

"To support this and be able to report back to Manchester City Council, we have added the EarthMover payload monitoring system. This allows the operator to log every load, including what material is being moved, using the Leica ConX app on a tablet in the cab.

"It's a really simple system that geolocates every movement, loading up the data, which we can then share with our team and the client. In addition to adding the EarthMover system to our Bell Trucks, the Ongrade team has been fitting and calibrating Leica Geosystems 3D machine control to a Liebherr dozer and Volvo excavators.

"We have also rented base stations and other surveying equipment from them. With the foreman kit, I can now sit in the cab and drive around the site, as the whole 3D earthworks model is on my tablet, which is a game-changer."
