UKs first Cat 395 joins the expanding Caterpillar fleet at Catplants quarry and landfill site

Peter Haddock talks to Catplant MD Ronnie Harrod onsite with the impressive new Cat 395. We talk about why he continues to invest in Caterpillar equipment with dealer Finning UK & Ireland to support the tasks required to run the quarry, landfill and waste recovery site near Doncaster.

The combined site produces over 120,000 tonnes of aggregate each year and imports up to 200,000 tonnes of waste to process or place into landfill. It is extremely busy and home to a fleet of Cat equipment that includes Cat 320 excavators, ADT’s, a new Cat D6 XE, Cat D9T two Cat 980M wheel loaders, a Cat CS66 vibratory soil compactor, two Cat 836H waste compactors and a Cat 963 tracked loader.

The new Cat 395 is used to rip up the quarry floor, creating a stockpile of material fed into a Terex Finlay mobile crushing and screening train by a Cat 320 GC excavator. Elsewhere on site, the Cat D9T and Cat D6 XE are used for several tasks, including capping landfill waste cells.

Further along the site, the Cat 836H’s and Cat 963 combine to manage the landfill process. Other machines are tasked with managing the loading of trucks, looking after stockpiles and processing waste for recycling. But it’s not all about the equipment, as Ronnie is a big advocate for technology, connecting all machines using the ProductLink solution from Caterpillar to monitor the performance and health of all the machines on site.

He is also one of the first users of the new CUBIQ Platform from Finning which was recently introduced with support from Finning’s Ben Jarzyna. CUBIQ allows the team to see everything related to their fleet and financial dealings with Finning with customisable dashboards.
