Using 3D scanning solutions to protect historical buildings

Pelser Hartman Group is using 3D scanning solutions to protect historical buildings and monuments, whilst thinking about the future by attracting and educating the next generation of surveyors.

To find out how more, Peter Haddock spoke to Jeroen Pelser of the Netherlands based surveying specialist at Hexagon Live last year.

The business has itself taken a big journey from using standard surveying methods to adopting the latest in scanning technology from @leicageosystemsondemand

Its now a specialist in 3D scanning and modelling, working on complex projects for both public and private sector clients. And part of this work involves regularly mapping historic buildings and monuments to compare changes over time, supporting maintenance and restoration work.

In addition to all this, Jeroen and his team have created a whole Knowledge Base library of learning tools for the industry at large to take advantage of, with over 2000 pages on its Pelserhartman.nl website sharing its extensive knowledge.

The business also has an education programme where it works with clients, colleges and universities to share best practices and upskill individuals.

It really is a great story of how technology can play a role in protecting existing infrastructure and buildings as well as helping to deliver an exciting digital driven future for the next generation.
