Want a Greener Tomorrow Wash and Recycle Your PPE Today

PPE - wash it, recycle it or throw it away? Each decision makes a carbon impact, and even changing the type of glove you use on a major project like HS2 can save 100 tonnes of Carbon.

To find out more as part of our Content For Industry #PPETHATFITS mini series, Peter Haddock visited OnSite Support Ltd in Crawley and spoke to Warren Lynes. Warren:

“PPE that fits is so important, but it’s equally important to look at what PPE you specify and how to look after it.

“For example, good quality PPE can fit better and last longer as it can be washed just like your clothes without falling apart.

“With items like gloves, when a life-extending glove was specified on one of the HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd projects with Align JV, they were able to dramatically reduce carbon emissions.

“Projects like this also show us how we can make a difference when it comes to looking after PPE. For example, we now provide PPE recycling bins and even set up laundry facilities to ensure PPE is clean and, therefore, fit for its purpose.

“It’s also about wellbeing and feeling comfortable as well as being seen. Of course, PPE does get damaged or comes to the end of its life so it’s also important to recycle and divert from landfill. “
