Flannery Plant Hire on the benefits of Eco operator training

Flannery Plant Hire trainer Andy Perry on the benefits of delivering Eco-operator training with the Blackwell Earthmoving team on HS2

Last year, Peter Haddock spoke to Andy after sitting through his training session to understand the impact of making simple changes to plant operations.

Andy: "Eco-operator training is about showing that small adjustments, like reducing idle time or improving machine maintenance, can make a big difference to both emissions and fuel burn.

“In the training we talk about how emissions impact the environment and then look at simple ways to change operating practices that have already saved huge amounts of CO2 and fuel.

“The impact to date has been significant as not only do we save fuel for our customers, we also put less hours on the machines, reducing maintenance costs and premature parts replacement.

“By making this type of training available for site managers as well, we have been able to improve communication and planning. This has led to operators adopting these practices without impacting their workflow, and it’s been transformative.

“For example, aligning breaks with site activities, fleet matching, and optimising haul routes have all played a part in reducing unnecessary idling.”

Peter added: “Talking to some of the Blackwells team after the training, it was also clear that the program benefits them directly by offering them an official certification.

“From a wider industry perspective, this collaboration between Flannery and Blackwells is a testament to the power of partnerships and how they pave the way for a more efficient, environmentally conscious construction industry.”
