An indepth interview with Merrill Lynch of L Lynch Plant Hire

L Lynch Plant Hire Joint MD, Merrill Lynch talks about delivering projects, environmental savings, using technology, people, safety, productivity, the impact of machine control, alternative fuels and more in this in-depth interview with Peter Haddock in our Leica Geosystems studio at Highways UK.

When expanding welfare facilities makes a site better for operators whilst saving over £600k in fuel, you know something has gone right.

And that's about the fundamentals of running a job site with a people-first approach, something that the team at Lynch does very well.

Add to this a heavy investment in new equipment, technology and training, which includes things like:

  • Investment in electrification with the latest Hitachi 8 tonne all-electric excavator
  • A focus on machine control from the likes of Leica Geosystems, with the right accredited training from its own centre.
  • Over 250 installs of the AI safety solution from Safety Shield to tackle the people plant interface.

And you get a big player in the industry that still holds its family values at the heart of the business.

Merrill: "The way that we're able to work with our supply chain and customers to introduce new technologies, equipment, share ideas and best practices is fantastic.

"And particularly regarding the environment and safety, we are also working with our competitors to support new industry standards and training. This is brilliant because these are UK and global issues that are bigger than we are.

"It's also why we need to lobby the Government as a sector to support the energy transition to alternative fuels like hydrogen, as I believe together we are close to winning this battle.

"But on the way, we must maintain sight of the opportunities we have now to reduce our carbon footprint, improve productivity, invest in and keep people safe.

"There is a lot of equipment and technologies that are ready to use now. We just need to ensure we make the most of them."
