Case autonomous and remote control solution can be switched between machines

At CONEXPO-CON/AGG, Peter Haddock caught up with Antonio Venezia on the CASE Construction Equipment stand to look at a different approach to autonomy.

Antonio: “We have decoupled the machine from the technology. You can buy the machine as it is today and add autonomy or remote control whenever you need it.

Key Autonomous features

  • A modular system that can be installed and moved between machines
  • GNSS positioning for guidance and task execution
  • Multi-camera setup for full perception and object recognition
  • Dual LiDAR sensors for continuous site scanning
  • Sensor fusion delivering 360-degree situational awareness
  • Remote control capability with live machine interface access
  • “Virtual operator” concept supporting, not replacing, human operators

Antonio: “The modular system comes in different sections. You have the core with the controllers, the arms that position the system around the machine, and the sensing components.

“You can configure it depending on your needs, making it fit for the application, easy to install  and transport.”

“For example, we have GNSS for guidance, cameras for perception, and LiDAR to scan the job site. All of this is fused together to give full 360-degree awareness.”

“You’re able to identify people, trucks, other machines and material. It’s not just one view, it’s a complete understanding of what’s happening around the machine.”

“You can monitor everything remotely with full access to the machine interface, or take control using a remote with a simple thumb joystick, especially useful for the next generation of operators.”
