Caterpillar Inc 950 GC all electric wheel loader powers up bauma

Peter Haddock caught up with Thierry Brasseur to take a closer look at its largest all electric wheel loader model.

Thierry: “Our pre-production machines have been running with customers across Europe and North America, and we have been testing them in a range of real-world conditions.”

“This isn’t just about replacing a diesel engine with a battery. It’s about delivering diesel-equivalent performance with the added benefits of electric drive.

“So this model is capable of doing exactly the same jobs as the diesel version, but with the power of an electric motor.

“At every part of the development stage, we have fine tuned the operation of the machine so that the right amount of power is delivered at the right time.

“This prevents things like tyre slippage and ensures optimal penetration into the pile.”

“The quieter operation is also a big advantage, especially in indoor or urban environments. It’s an important factor for operators and site management alike.”

Key points about the 950 electric:

- Powered by a 256 kWh/600v battery

- Delivering up to 8 hours of runtime with a mid-shift 45-minute charge

- Charging options include a 22 kW max AC on-board charger and DC max 290

   kW with MEC360 with CCS2 liquid-cooled cable.

- Operating weight of 19,798 kg

Thierry added: “Our approach to electric is not about just providing a machine, we’re delivering a complete electric solution, from chargers and energy storage to power supply management.”

Caterpillar will be making further announcements about when the model is due to roll off the production line, so watch this space...
