First Look at the New Komatsu PC220LCi with Intelligent Machine Control

Up to 25% fuel savings and lots of technology, a first look at the new Komatsu Europe PC220LCi excavator with Intelligent Machine Control 3.0 on the McHale Komatsu stand at Hillhead - International quarrying, construction + recycling show.

Peter Haddock caught up with Jake Walley to take a closer look at the machine that has been redesigned with factory-integrated technology to improve productivity, operator comfort, fuel efficiency and connectivity.

Key highlights covered include:

- Up to 25% fuel saving compared with the previous model.

- 30% larger cab, giving operators significantly more working space.

- New multifunction joysticks capable of supporting 40+ functions.

- Factory-integrated GNSS antennas, protected within the machine body for improved security and backed by a full Komatsu warranty.

- New IMU sensor technology, replacing traditional stroke sensors for enhanced machine control accuracy.

- Factory-fitted wiring throughout the boom and arm, making tiltrotator installation far simpler without requiring a complete aftermarket machine control kit.

- Compatible with leading tiltrotator brands including engcon, Steelwrist and Rototilt Limited.

- New Auto Swing function, automatically returning the machine to a predefined loading position to improve loading cycles and reduce operator fatigue.

- Track to Line technology, allowing the machine to automatically stay on line while trenching, reducing unnecessary track movements.

- New touchscreen display combining machine control, payload weighing and tiltrotator functions into a single integrated system.

- Built-in 3D Boundary Control, allowing operators to create avoidance zones and improve safety around site hazards.
