Grist Environmental continue growth with support from JCB Finance

Grist Environmental Ltd is a great family-run success story with over 50 years in waste management and an appetite for continued growth.

That's the message Peter got from Paul Mortimer when he met him onsite at one of the very busy facilities the company operates.

It's already processing 75,000 tonnes of waste annually, with a capacity of up to 150,000 tonnes, which the company is working to achieve with the help of JCB Finance Ltd and local JCB dealer Holt JCB Limited.

Paul: "Our business plan changes from year to year because we’re in an ever-evolving market. This means we need to be able to change direction quickly, and that’s one of the advantages of being a family run business, as we can make decisions fast. But like any business, we rely on accurate information to make the right ones.”

In order to do this Grist use JCB's LiveLink telemetry system, working with Holt JCB equipment and maintenance experts to keep equipment uptime at the highest possible levels.

Paul: "We are extremely busy, so we need reliability and service even from our older equipment, like our JCB material handler, which has over 9000 hours on the clock."

And it's not just about investing in JCB equipment, as the business has a huge fleet of over 100 trucks, crushers and attachments that are also financed by JCB Finance.

Paul: "With any equipment purchasing decision, we have to ensure it makes financial sense to the business, and that's why we work with JCB Finance, through Dave Crosby as they recognise our need to be very agile in the way we operate."

Peter added: “Having met both Paul and James Grist and one of their operators onsite, you can really understand the very diverse waste streams they have to deal with and the pace at which they work.

“For me, it was great also to see them keeping older machines running for long hours as this shows that if you maintain equipment properly it can keep on delivering for you.”
