How will a Hydrogen Bowser work

With more Hydrogen powered machines and equipment set to be launched and onsite in the coming years, getting the fuel those last miles onsite to refill like we currently do with diesel will be critical.

And at Plantworx in the ‘Big Ideas Zone’, one company Commercial Fuel Solutions, showcased a very important new prototype, the Hydrogen Bowser.

Peter Haddock spoke to Hydrogen expert, Robin Futcher to learn more about how this product will help solve the refuelling challenge in the coming years.

Robin: "If we are to reach our Net Zero targets for construction, Hydrogen has to be a part of the mix, and therefore the fuel needs to be mobilised safely.

"In the design of this prototype, we have created a bowser that can be mounted on a trailer and moved around the site in the same way as a diesel equivalent.

"This model is designed to carry 74.5 kg of Hydrogen at 500 bar of pressure and can deliver the fuel in a comparable time to diesel. Much like a normal site, you could have a number of these bowsers refilling from a larger tank onsite that could then operate throughout the project."

Peter added: “It is great to see that as the Hydrogen market develops, refuelling solutions like this will be ready to support the journey from diesel to hydrogen fuel. And I look forward to seeing it on site in the future.”
