Its just changed everything Next Generation embraces digitalisation

‘It’s just changed everything’ - Next Generation embraces digitalisation as Ben Sibley explains the benefits of combining a Develon Europe DL225 excavator with an Engcon UK Ltd tiltrotator with Leica Geosystems 3D machine control.

Peter Haddock met Ben onsite in Newquay, Cornwall, to find out how, as a younger operator, he has made the switch to using 3D machine control.

He also explained how he and the Chris sibley groundworks team are supported by a local dealer, One Point Survey Equipment, with machine control and surveying equipment.

In this video, Ben explains that, following some awareness training, he now just gets to the site, puts his own offsets into the Leica Geosystems tablet, and gets to work.

Ben: “I have been operating now for around 11 years and recently started using machine control, with the help of Lee Knowles and Robert Elliott of One Point Survey.

“It's just changed everything as I can now get on site and be able to start work because I have the whole 3D earthworks model created by our engineers on my tablet in the machine.

“I am also using an Engcon tiltrotator with the Leica Geosystems machine control and this combines really well for doing housebuilding plots.

"All the buckets I use are calibrated into the machine, and we have even done calibration work on buckets without the tiltrotator if someone else needs to use it.

“A new machine will be arriving soon, already fitted with machine control by One Point Survey. They will calibrate it in the same way so I can then use the tablet and Engcon straight away.”
