Keeping electric machines moving with the Rental Group

Peter Haddock visited its state-of-the-art electric machine workshop facility in Norway, where it looks after all of its growing electric fleet with specialist engineers and equipment.

In this video, Kim talks Peter through its approach to electrification and some of the things the team do to check, maintain and set up new equipment in this case, wheel loaders from Liugong Europe.

Kim: “Our electric machines, including the LiuGong wheel loaders we are currently prepping, are designed to tackle the toughest applications and conditions, from snow ploughing to dirt moving.

“Of course, they have to work in very low temperatures in the winter months, sometimes in locations as high as 1,000 metres above sea level. And the LiuGong machines here perform as reliably as their diesel counterparts.

Retrofitting new components to electric machines is a key part of meeting Nordic demands, with features like heated wipers, auxiliary power units, and additional lighting for harsh winters.

Kim: “With these wheel loaders coming straight from the factory, we have worked with the LiuGong engineering team to be able to add in our own additional power connections with wiring looms we make ourselves.

“Doing this transforms the machine into a very versatile unit. So whether you need a snowblower or a sweeper, you can access the power to control them using the existing battery.”

“When it comes to looking after the battery itself, our certified technicians ensure batteries are serviced, repaired, or replaced when needed. It’s just like working on traditional engines but with cutting edge safety measures for high-voltage systems.”

With a growing fleet of 160 electric machines, including 100+ LiuGong units, Rental Group Norway is paving the way for zero emissions construction, proving that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand, even in the most challenging environments.
