Peter Haddock recently caught up with James Barden, Head of Innovation at its training centre, to find out how a small cell is making a big difference.

James: “They say good things come in small packages, and Ultimate Cell is exactly that, a small cell that generates Hydrogen, which is mixed with diesel to increase the performance of existing machines. 

“We have been testing this technology for 18 months now on over 30 machines. They include ADTS, excavators, dozers, rollers and tractors, and the results have led to us deploying the solution to 85 units so far across its fleet.

“For something so small, the impact and potential to our industry is massive and scalable, as for larger machines like ADTs you can put the cells together to deliver the right amount of Hydrogen needed.” 

“We all know the potential of alternative fuels and the need to reduce carbon and the use of diesel, so what we have with Ultimate Cell is a solution for now, while the industry transitions toward full hydrogen and electric machines.”

Not only has Lynch seen consistent reductions in fuel consumption and emissions, but they’ve also measured increased torque on machines like dozers and ADTs.

James: “It essentially gives you a little bit more, so you need less fuel to do the same function.”

As part of the testing process, detailed telemetry data has been collected and analysed before, during, and after installation to provide clients with hard evidence of performance improvement and sustainability impact.

James: “We can now sit down with clients and show them the savings with confidence, proving it can make a difference today.”
