Moog Construction and Leica Geosystems announce partnership at Bauma

“If you retrofit an electric solution and 3D machine control at the same time, you make every kW of energy more productive.”

That’s the message from Neil Williams and Holger Pietzsch when Peter Haddock spoke to them about a new industry partnership between leica Geosystems and z-quip, part of moog construction at Bauma.

Standing in front of a converted Cat 308 excavator, Hopi explained its modular retrofit approach: “This is a traditional Caterpillar machine we have converted to be fully electric, but instead of integrating the battery, we kept it modular.

This means you can charge it in a normal way, switch it out for another module and easily transport modules onsite. “You can even upgrade the module over time, which allows you to bring green energy to the machine, while staying adaptable.”

Talking about the new partnership Neil added: ““As electrification becomes more common across sites, the benefits of this approach will go way beyond energy efficiency.”

“This combination opens the door to semi-autonomous workflows, safer operations in confined or indoor environments with 3D collision avoidance from XWatch and the simplification of adding future innovations to machines.

“By integrating machine control at the point of retrofit, we avoid aftermarket complexity and align with the sectors sustainability goals.”

“This isn’t just a combination of technologies, it’s a foundation for future innovation.”
