On the road mobile mapping the road with Severn Partnership

Peter Haddock joins survey and mapping specialist Luke Blakemore as he tests out the new Pegasus TRK 700 Neo mobile mapping technology from Leica Geosystems.

Peter: “Even as we were talking in the car, the journey was being 3D mapped, with the Pegasus capturing over a million points of data per second. So, by the time we got back to the head office, we had captured billions of points of data that Luke and the team at Severn Partnership could quickly turn into 3D point cloud models.

“Even whilst we were in the collection phase, a hard drive in the boot was doing some of the data processing needed, so when we took it up to the technical team, they were able to create a 3D model before my eyes.

“Luke then showed me how we could use some clever software to identify potholes,  overhanging trees, curbs and much more. It would have taken a team of surveyors days, if not weeks, to survey the stretch of road will covered in this video alone.

“And it was all done from the comfort of the car seat.”
