Perkins Engines reveals advanced telemetry solution and app upgrade

Uptime is everything when it comes to equipment performance, efficiency, keeping productivity levels up and meeting deadlines.

So, understanding how your engine or battery power solution is performing is critical when it comes to proactively managing equipment maintenance to achieve the best levels of uptime.

This is the subject of our next interview with Perkins Engines Digital and Technology solutions specialist Ronan King, whom I met at its recent press conference

He revealed a new advanced telemetry solution, which will be rolled out in April 2024, linking to its existing app, which is also being enhanced.

Ronan: "There are now millions of engines and an increasing number of Perkins battery powered equipment from a range of OEMs operating globally.

With this new telemetry solution, which incorporates advanced software analysis, they will be able to deliver real-time advanced performance, health information and insights to OEM's, dealers and our expert monitoring teams.

This will enable better remote diagnostics, ensuring the right parts are supplied for a first time fix or preventative maintenance. And because the API from our new solution can be integrated with existing or future OEM solutions, end users can also benefit.

"In addition, we are upgrading our app to give more information directly to equipment owners and those responsible for maintaining an individual machine or fleet."

Getting more relevant information about the health of equipment can make a huge difference in a lot of ways.

Firstly, the environmental impact of maintaining equipment and preventing downtime is huge. There are fewer engineering trips needed, reduced wear of expensive parts, greater work done due to increased uptime and more productivity, to name just a few.

Equally, if you can spot trends and learn from past data, you can maintain efficiency levels for longer, meaning less fuel burn. It all adds up and shows how different technology advancements can support our sector in many ways.
