How do US contractors use 'dirt simple' software AGTEK to deliver projects using traditional and drone surveying?

At Hexagon Live, Peter Haddock caught up with Spencer Thompson, Senior Estimator at US based Hoopaugh Grading. 

We talked about how it's transforming the way they deliver earthworks and infrastructure projects by combining drone technology with the AGTEK platform. 

It allows them to track progress on site, using regular flights to generate point cloud maps that are used to calculate volumes, compare design to as-built models, and optimise material movement.

Spencer: "We fly the sites, collect the data, put it into AGTEK, and it contours surfaces so we can see exactly how much dirt we've moved or still need to move."

"This means we can adjust grades on the fly, avoid unnecessary import or export of material, and keep both costs and carbon down." 

When it comes to brownfield or complex sites, the team use AGTEK's soil layer analysis to help plan around unsuitable or contaminated materials before a bucket hits the ground. 

Spencer added: "This allows us to identify unsuitable material or rock early on, price it, manage it, and stay ahead of the programme."
