Young operator Elliot Stephens embraces Leica Geosystems 3D machine control

Operators are the brains inside any machine, and Elliott Stephens is a great example of how more and more operators are embracing Leica Geosystems 3D machine control.

Peter Haddock recently met 25 year old Elliott, who works for Courtney King Plant Hire, on a very interesting and complex road building project near Newquay.

The visit was part of our 'South West Connected Tour' with Lee Knowles of dealer One Point Survey. Elliott was operating a Cat D5K alongside his colleague, who was also using Leica Geosystems machine control on a Doosan 225 excavator.

Elliott: "I have only recently started using the 3D system from Leica Geosystems as Courtney King, who owns the business, upgraded from a 2D system to deliver this project.

"The team at One Point Survey has been great in introducing me to the system and how the models can be sent over the GPS network.

"It's ideal for use in a dozer and helps us massively when we need to reach the right grades on this project. I also use the system when operating our excavators, one of which has an Engcon tiltrotator, which is brilliant to work with.

"For me, 3D machine control just takes the guesswork out of doing the job. You have the model in the machine for the whole site, and you dig or doze to it.

"We also have to share this information with our client on this job so they can look at the progress we are making. And that is really simple as the Leica system does it for us."

Peter added: “I love meeting people like Elliott. He is super enthusiastic about his job and what he is achieving onsite and has really embraced machine control.”
