John Deere new excavators with integrated Leica Geosystems 3D machine control

John Deere showcases next generation excavators with integrated Leica Geosystems 3D machine control at CONEXPO-CON/AGG

I caught up with Global product specialist Drew Miller and the new 260 P-Tier 26 tonne excavator to find out more.

Drew: “This is one of our newest generation of excavators, fully designed and manufactured by John Deere. It’d probably be easier to tell you what we didn’t change on this machine than what we did.”

“And an important part of the design process was our approach to integrating technology from the factory to maximise productivity for our customers.

“This means machines like our 260 P-Tier now come with our SmartGrade 2D system, which can also be upgraded to Leica Geosystems 3D machine control at the factory, or when customers are ready..

“We’ve also integrated both solutions into our new fully customisable in-cab display.

“This is already a big hit with operators as they can configure the display their way, using split screens between 3D models and camera views, for example.

Creating a single ecosystem for the operator also means that customers can benefit from remote support, directly in the cab.

Drew: “Our new machines are also connected assets, so engineers are able to remote in and see exactly what the operator is seeing. If needed, they can even take control and manage 3D files directly from the office, removing the need to travel to site.”

“We already know that when customers get into 2D and then 3D, it saves time, saves money, and makes sure they get the job done right the first time. And now this integration will make it even easier.
