Talking rail machine refurbishment and advanced safety solutions

Earlier this year at Rail Live, Peter Haddock had the pleasure of sitting on a newly refurbished rail spec PW160 Komatsu for L&W Contractors Ltd with Ross Hewer of Road Rail Plant Ltd. He explained the benefits of keeping specialist equipment up and running for another seven years.

Ross also explained how the business had supported Tru7 Group's recent Tru Rail division launch by installing the latest Xwatch Safety Solutions part of Hexagon 3D collision avoidance slew and height restriction solutions onto its fleet.

Talking about his work with Tru7 Rail Ross said:

“Rather than just having a height and slew limiter, they have looked ahead at the problems the sector faces and opted to use the latest solution from Xwatch.

“This allows for safe stopping of equipment under load as it links to the proportional hydraulic controls of the individual machine, slowing it down to ensure they avoid slewing into live tracks or hitting cables. We have also added a remote deadman switch, and they have a track lock.”

Peter added: “For me, it is great to see operators now supported by the latest technology and a new entrant to the market choosing to invest in safety systems.”
