Ammann Group solutions reduce asphalt emissions

Ammann Groups focus on asphalt plant emissions treatment, captures ‘Blue Smoke’ and dramatically reduces ‘VOC’ gasses.

In the latest video of our Ammann mini-series, Peter Haddock speaks to Research and Development Manager, Carlo Adami. He explains how his team has designed two new retrofit solutions that can be used on both Ammann and other OEM asphalt plants.

Carlo: “Our first new solution focuses on the capture of blue smoke dramatically reducing the emissions that result while loading asphalt mix to trucks.

“We have called this Blue Smoke Treatment (BST), which is a cost-effective solution that doesn’t require expensive confinement equipment. This means it is much cheaper to operate, capturing fumes that previously would have escaped during loading and redirecting them to a multi-stage filtration system.

“The filters remove the oily particles, and after filtering, the system reroutes the remaining gases to the combustion chamber, lowering costs as the captured air is already heated.

“The second is our VOC Reduction Device (VRD), which reduces volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odours and other organic carbon emissions using a new innovative approach that can self-clean.

“We have designed the VRD as a modular, stand-alone solution compatible with virtually every type of asphalt-mixing plant, whether it is provided by Ammann or another manufacturer.

“The VRD can even be retrofitted to existing plants and only needs a power source to operate, reducing total organic carbon, which contains VOCs, by as much as 70% under normal working conditions.”

“Putting both solutions together on a plant will dramatically reduce emissions whilst making the environment around any plant better for staff and visitors.”

These include a World First Hydrogen burner and its second-generation RAH50 dryer, both of which can reduce CO2 emissions.
