HP SitePrint Robot prints blueprints onto construction sites

Revolutionary new HP SitePrint Robot prints blueprints onto a construction site, guided by a Leica Geosystems Total Station. Peter Haddock caught up with Rob Ward of surveying specialists Greenhatch Group at the Digital Construction Week, and Geobusiness shows to find out how it works.

Rob and the team have been testing the robot on live construction sites, checking its performance, accuracy and capabilities. The results have been game-changing, and clients are already seeing the benefits of being able to print not just lines but words, codes and more.

Rob: “We have been using the HP SitePrint on several jobs, including a hospital project, and it’s at least four times faster than more traditional methods.

“The real benefit is that the robot can be guided using our own Leica Geosystems Total Station, which helps it print layouts from our 3D models to millimetre accuracy. And with the ability to use different colour inks, we can see huge potential in marking out layouts for various trades onsite, removing confusion and errors. “It’s already saving us lots of time, and we no longer need to be marking out by hand on a concrete floor, which is great.” 

Peter added: “The HP SitePrint is a great solution with a plug and play design that works with existing modern surveying tools. I think it will be a real help onsite, removing errors and the cost of reworks.

“HP has even thought through the ink options, not just adding colours but also inks that can be washed away, last for months and even work on more porous surfaces.”
