Learning how to take flight with the Drone Pilot Academy

Peter and Lucas Haddock take at three day intensive training course to learn how to fly drones.

Following the final assessment flight, Peter Haddock spoke to MD James Ixer about the importance of training and the potential of drones to change the way the industry can do things.

He also got a bit giddy with a First Person View (FPV) drone test and learnt about the specialist training the team offer, from surveying to cinematography.

They have a fleet of drones that can be hired, including specialist LiDAR surveying equipment, which is increasingly being used for construction projects, collecting highly accurate data, safely and efficiently.

Peter also spoke to James about ‘keeping it legal’ and the fines people can incur if they don’t get it right.

“There’s a good set of regulations out there that are easy to follow once you know them, covering weight limits, distances to people, and more, so you can operate legally and safely,” James explained.

He added: “We obviously hear about users being fined for flying without the right permissions, thats why we also offer a consultancy service.

“Here, we add value by making sure your specific flight applications get passed by the CAA the first time, and we keep up with what’s getting accepted and what’s not,”

The Content With Media team took the A2 Certificate of Competence and the GVC course with trainer  Richard Knowles which we would highly recommend.
