Using earthworks technology to make projects viable

“When you can use technology to make a project viable and successful, it’s a game-changer for the industry and the economy. And it all starts with leveraging the right tools and expertise at every step."

That was the message from Brendan Morgan, Commercial Manager for RMG Groundworks when I met him on a new housebuilding project, the business had recently secured.

Having followed RMG's journey using AGTEK software to win and Leica Geosystems surveying and 3D machine control to deliver projects, it was great to hear about the technologies that have combined to make a site viable.

Brendan: "When we first came onsite we undertook trials holes and analysed ground conditions. We then brought our surveying team in and made a detailed 3D model that allowed us to quantify materials accurately and engineer solutions that minimised waste and vehicle movements.”

"Working with the client we adjusted levels on-site using AGTEK to reduce material removal, making the project financially viable, whilst showing them how we could deliver precision from trench excavation to material placement.

“This showed them that everything we do, from designing efficient workflows to using machine control has a positive commercial impact. So the smarter we operate, the better the outcomes, for us, our clients, and the environment.

"We are now forming the roads and civils elements of the project and the plots will follow shortly."

This is the first of three videos on this project in our mini series. In the next video, we talk to RMG's surveying engineer. And in the third video we hear from its machine control operator.
